[Duel Log]

"You started to feel bad, didn't you."

Kou grunted as the voice hovered around. Black-Winged Dragon couldn't really make himself visible-- not while he was still moving out in the open-- but he could hear it echoing in his head.

"Be quiet. I need to keep moving."

"But you felt bad. You started to feel guilty."

Kou didn't respond to that. Of course he started to feel bad about it. Marias was injured. And then when his power copied Black Rose Dragon, she pretty much lost it. But it wasn't like he meant to make her lose it, or even to copy the Black Rose Dragon-- hell, he didn't even expect at first to copy the Red Daemon's Dragon.

His power connected him to those he triumphed over. As a result, he had a lot of cards and powers at his disposal from over the years of handling threats. But he never knew how it'd interact with the other Signers. He thought he'd get their unique powers if anything, but their Dragons?

Not that they weren't useful. He could have finished that duel on his second turn if he had summoned the Red Daemon's Dragon and Judgment Dragon. He knew it, and he was sure she knew it too after seeing Red.

But he didn't expect her to retaliate like that. It was only due to the Black Rose Dragon interfering that he had gotten away without retaliating himself.

-- a nasty thought entered his head. If only she showed that type of attitude when it came to the people she was supposed to be overseeing. The willingness to step in and deescalate. But he knows that isn't there. And he knows because of her that those related to the Signer business shouldn't just get along because they're all on the same team. He knows this.

He flicked the Black Rose Dragon card out from his pocket. It looked... Normal, but it did feel unreal to have it. He did consider it-- he considered just discarding it. A show of faith. But what faith? Why would he have faith in her? He gave her something to aim for that isn't just seeking a thrill or a title.

Besides, he was pretty certain that even if he discarded it, it'd come back.

"You should've just let her duel you again and threw the match."

Kou scoffed under his breath. "That wouldn't have proven anything. She probably would've felt like I was screwing with her, between beating her that soundly and her injury."

"But instead, you let her get mad. But it's easier to just let her be mad, right? Even if you started to feel bad."

Ghn. He hated that he kept bringing that up. Guilt was unnecessary about this. They're the ones who showed their failures. He's the one who did something when the Ancient Fairy Dragon was ill. He's the one who's been winning. Even without Red Daemon's Dragon, he would've likely put her into a spot she couldn't recover from.

And yet, he felt bad. Was it because she was a Signer? That she didn't deserve the slight? Or was it because he isn't ready to face the animosity? Was it because he'd be alone this whole time?

He didn't get it. But it wasn't going to change anything. The truth of the matter still is that he was virtually unknown. If he had just popped up all friendly, they would've disregarded him-- or found him suspicious. After all, to them, their world was just them. The five Signers. A sixth dragon coming out of nowhere with a sixth Signer... isn't it strange?

He would've found them suspicious, too. Wouldn't it be the same? Or is he assuming it'd be the same?

"What do you plan on doing now, then?"

Kou finally managed to reach back to the small apartment he was staying at, letting out a breath as he removed the cloak and pulled down the cloth covering his mouth. "I'll stick to what I want to do. We still need to figure out where the escapees are, right?"

He scoffed to himself as another nasty thought entered his head. Maybe if the other Signers had stepped up to help the Ancient Fairy Dragon-- or better yet, pushed harder for her to get her life in order, they wouldn't be having this problem. But it's all the same to him. He cured the Ancient Fairy Dragon. It's only right he fixes the escapee problem, too. They don't actually care about it, anyway.

Least it's easier to think they don't.
