*So, as you may know, Kou has been working at DA now. This isn't too much of a secret, though he hasn't really given a reason for why he's doing this.

Well, you may find him acting upon one of these reasons, later in the night on the island or in the city [You Choose Which]-- perhaps you're someone who just doesn't follow the rules of curfew or you're late coming from things you had to do, but you'll find some guy following another, certain creepy shut-in dude.

If he's in the city, he's in his dumb incognito outfit, but if he's on the island, he isn't bothering with it. Stands out too much in that situation.*

*Looking at the mark when he shows it to her, you see an expression that tells you that she knows exactly what that mark is.*

So you're a signer.

I had heard mentions of something setting off the marks of the signers in the city, but I didn't really pay much attention to it.

Yeah. And I'd appreciate it if you don't advertise it. Not sure who you'd say it to, anyway.

Whatever he's doing, it's been activating the marks. I've been trying to figure out what it is that's happening, and why it'd be setting them off at all.

*Yubel is silent for a moment, before she bends down to take a closer look at the marks herself, tracing a clawed finger over them.*

I would say that if what he is doing is setting off only the signer marks, and is in no way being detected by anyone else in the city with a heightened sensitivity to supernatural occurrences, then these marks he is using could be related to those marks.

*She points a clawed finger at Kou's arm where his signer mark is.*

It's possible...

Or he himself is related to the marks, too. Which...

The idea of that scares me a little more.

*Something seems to click with Yubel when he says that as she stands up and looks over at him.*

Then it is possible he is one of two things... and I do not think I like the possibility of one of them.

Depending on what one of those things is, you can probably understand why this is a complicated matter.

Either way, I don't know what triggers these traps, but I'd probably not want to be exactly here when it goes off. *he starts climbing back up*

*Yubel flies back up on top of the buildings and positions herself on top of them so she's out of sight of anyone below, but has a decent view of the alleyway.
She's curious to see what happens here.*

*A while passes. The night grows deeper. It gets to a point where you start to think that maybe nothing was gonna happen, at least tonight--

But then your little would-be assassin signer grabs his arm where the mark is, looking frantically around at the skyline from his position.*

Where--?!

*Noticing what was happening, Yubel quickly jumps up to higher position in order to get a better look over the city.*

*thankfully due to your quick moment and flight, you're able to get a very good scope of the city-- so you can spot that several blocks down, far away from where you and Kou decided to stake out, you spot a rapidly fading light.*

*Upon seeing it, she wastes no time in jumping back down to where Kou is.*

Tch. It appears they may have triggered one several blocks away from our current position.

*Before you get much chance to respond, Yubel is moving away over the roof tops.*

*he has to take a moment to process Yubel's words, the searing sensation on his arm ebbing away now. But he knows he has to move-- now. He has to move now, as he starts to follow best he can, until they reach their destination.

The bad news is, of course, is that whatever or whoever triggered where you're at-- they're gone, now. But considering the distance, it's to be expected.

But Kou, once he catches up, takes a deep breath, and--*

Burning, again...

*She once again jumps up to a higher position on the building they're on, quickly looking around the city skyline.*

*you don't see anything that seems to be another light-show going on... well, you do see people going around-- the late-night crew, but that makes it harder to say, spot the assailant you're both looking for.*

Tch...

*She sneers before jumping back down.*

It seems he had more than one site set up and played us for fools.
Maybe he's aware that someone has been following him.

I... I wouldn't put it past him, honestly. But... that burning smell...

*there's a smell? You can't really tell it yourself-- the wind's likely blown enough of it away, but Kou is managing to track down the markings that were left, even in the darkness-- similar scratchings, but...*

These are... They're actually slightly different than the other ones we were watching.

*Curiously, she takes a closer look at the markings that are left too.*

Curious that the markings would differ.
Are they for a different purpose? Or by a different person?

Is the smell of burning common at these sites after they have been activated?

*you see him nod*

Yeah... at every site so far, there's been a lingering burning smell. Ashy. Like fire had just erupted here, but usually by the time I find it, it's a lot less... fresh.

*he traces the markings, thinking*

... do you think he maybe set up a fake mark, just so we'd be watching that one instead?

If it is possible that he was aware of being followed, then yes, I think that scenario is very likely.

Tch.

*She sneers again. You get the feeling that she doesn't like someone out-smarting her.*

It... That makes me wonder, though.

Why bother setting up a fake mark that won't go off, for us? I mean, it distracted us, but...

If he knew he was being followed, why didn't he try to take us out in the process?

Who knows. Maybe it's just not his style.

Or maybe he's just playing with us.
