*So, as you may know, Kou has been working at DA now. This isn't too much of a secret, though he hasn't really given a reason for why he's doing this.

Well, you may find him acting upon one of these reasons, later in the night on the island or in the city [You Choose Which]-- perhaps you're someone who just doesn't follow the rules of curfew or you're late coming from things you had to do, but you'll find some guy following another, certain creepy shut-in dude.

If he's in the city, he's in his dumb incognito outfit, but if he's on the island, he isn't bothering with it. Stands out too much in that situation.*

*once he's scaled up, he seems to be following the person, tracking him from above.

You can't really tell as well from your position, but the person seems to have stopped, and has crouched down to do something, still humming a tune you can just barely hear...*

*Yubel can't get too close without being detected, so she stops where she is and watches them both from a distance.

What exactly was going on here...?*

*you're not fully sure, but the guy down below seems to be... scratching something into the ground.

He isn't really keeping himself hidden, but given the time of night, most people wouldn't give a second thought to some scraggly looking guy hanging out in an alleyway-- he looks like half a mess anyway.

But he seems to be very careful about whatever he's marking...*

*Yubel ponders what exactly a guy like this would be scratching into the ground that would be interesting enough for Kou to follow him.

She felt it was more than just him inscribing his love for an anime waifu.

Maybe it was some kind of incarnation? Maybe a symbol, or a insignia of some kind? Maybe he was trying to open some kind of gate or portal?
She wouldn't put it past a guy like this to be into occult stuff.*

*while you're trying to tell whatever the hell it is that Tarou's doing, you've probably had to lean out a little to see more clearly, given how dark and cramped the scene below is.

Which is why Kou very clearly turns his head in your direction, even with his expression being obscured.*

*Noticing Kou's movement, she looks up at him, realising that he's spotted her. She glares at him for a moment.

She figures, right now, that it's no big deal he's spotted her. She felt that he won't risk moving away and being spotted by the guy he's keeping an eye on, since his main focus is on him. She looks away and back towards the guy on the ground, making no movement, showing that, for now, she won't be interfering.

She's much more interested to see exactly what is going on.*

*he's... uncomfortable, but priorities are priorities.

He adjusts his position to try to see what Tarou is scratching into the ground-- his one benefit is that his get-up definitely helps him blend into the darkness that's around.*

*Tarou meanwhile, seems to "finish" what it is he was doing, and suddenly stands up straight, cricking his neck a little.

He turns to leave the alleyway, counting the steps it takes to reach the end, scratching a line to there with a small pocket knife, and does the same after turning around and going through the other end. He nods, as though satisfied, before pocketing his tool.

He starts to leave the alleyway, humming again.*

*Such odd behaviour. Even for a human.

Yubel watches him leave, then quietly moves to see if she can make out anything of whatever this guy had scratched into the ground.*

*Kou's following suit-- once he knows for sure that Tarou's cleared out of here to somewhere else.

It definitely looks like random scratchings-- lines and circles, but there seems to be a pattern to it all...*

These are more than just random things scratched into the ground...

*She glances over at Kou.*

What exactly is going on here, undercover boy? Do you know what these are?

*Kou lets out a sigh, he wasn't really expecting you-- or to be giving him questions, but...*

It... It's just my gathering of how this has been, but I think the markings are meant to be a trap he ends up triggering, once he has the right "target".

And what exactly is this trap for, once he has required his 'target'? What purpose does this all serve?

Best I can think of? And keep in mind, this only has a 90% chance of being correct...

But he might be eating souls.

*well that isn't an answer you might've expected.*

And do you know why he might be eating souls?

That's what I'm trying to figure out. He's only done stuff like this a couple times since I've started watching him.

If I had to guess though, it might be... like trying to power a battery in himself, in a figurative sense.

*he crouches down, trying to trace the patterns, carefully.*

*She watches him trace the patterns.*

So then the question is, who, or more what, is he.

*... he finishes tracing, getting up. He had to take a moment. A moment to think. Yubel here... already knows who he is. That he's been going around like this. What'll it hurt if a spirit knows?*

That's what I'm trying to figure out. What my associate's trying to figure out, too.

But whatever he is... he's been setting off this.

*he rolls up his sleeve, showing off a red-lined mark for a moment, before rolling back down.*

*Looking at the mark when he shows it to her, you see an expression that tells you that she knows exactly what that mark is.*

So you're a signer.

I had heard mentions of something setting off the marks of the signers in the city, but I didn't really pay much attention to it.

Yeah. And I'd appreciate it if you don't advertise it. Not sure who you'd say it to, anyway.

Whatever he's doing, it's been activating the marks. I've been trying to figure out what it is that's happening, and why it'd be setting them off at all.

*Yubel is silent for a moment, before she bends down to take a closer look at the marks herself, tracing a clawed finger over them.*

I would say that if what he is doing is setting off only the signer marks, and is in no way being detected by anyone else in the city with a heightened sensitivity to supernatural occurrences, then these marks he is using could be related to those marks.

*She points a clawed finger at Kou's arm where his signer mark is.*

It's possible...

Or he himself is related to the marks, too. Which...

The idea of that scares me a little more.

*Something seems to click with Yubel when he says that as she stands up and looks over at him.*

Then it is possible he is one of two things... and I do not think I like the possibility of one of them.

Depending on what one of those things is, you can probably understand why this is a complicated matter.

Either way, I don't know what triggers these traps, but I'd probably not want to be exactly here when it goes off. *he starts climbing back up*

*Yubel flies back up on top of the buildings and positions herself on top of them so she's out of sight of anyone below, but has a decent view of the alleyway.
She's curious to see what happens here.*
